By Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works
Project proposals for the first two calls of the Interreg VI-A Romania-Bulgaria 2021-2027 programme are open until 11 September this year. The first is for pre-defined strategic projects and the second is an open call for competitive selection.
The planned strategic projects are aimed at disaster risk reduction and joint activities in the field of transport. They are: STREAM 2 to strengthen disaster response capabilities; Danube RISK to monitor and prepare for water pollution emergencies; DISMAR to improve navigation conditions on the Danube by installing a marking system on the navigable route, and a rail connectivity project aimed at modernising stations and electrifying railway tracks.
The open call is under specific priorities 2.4 and 2.7 of the new EU Cohesion Policy - A green, low-carbon transition to a net zero carbon economy and a sustainable Europe. More than €9 million is earmarked for projects meeting the specific objective of promoting climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention and improving resilience. A further €35 million will be targeted at projects to improve the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and to reduce pollution. European funding is 80% and the remaining 20% is national funding and own contribution. The Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works as the National Authority provides 18% of the national co-financing and the beneficiaries have to provide 2% own contribution.
