Over 34 million euros will be invested for the development of the border districts of Burgas, Yambol, Haskovo, Edirne and Kırklareli

The European Commission has approved the Bulgaria-Turkey CBC Programme for the period 2021-2027. Through it, over 34 million euro will be invested in the districts of Burgas, Yambol, Haskovo, Edirne and Kırklareli over the next 7 years.

The largest share of the programme budget - nearly €25 million - is targeted at investments in integrated territorial development focusing on the specific needs of the region. This priority will support projects in tourism and other sectors.

The strategic project of the programme is related to strengthening the capacity of law enforcement authorities on both sides of the border in the fight against illegal migration. It is foreseen to invest 2 million euro in training and exchange of experience, implementation of innovative surveillance practices and supply of specialised equipment to the regional directorates of the Ministry of Interior in the districts of Burgas, Haskovo and Yambol on the Bulgarian side, and Edirne and Kırklareli on the Turkish side.

The programme will also support small and medium-sized businesses through direct support to small and medium-sized enterprises in border towns. A total of 22% of its total budget is earmarked for measures to help organisations reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency and stimulate the development of a circular economy.

It is planned to conduct an information campaign in the first quarter of 2023 to present the conditions for applying under the different priorities.
