Savin Kovachev – Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, and Belin Mollov – an expert advisor to Minister Valentin Cerovski on the issues of Euro-integration, are in the composition of the Bulgarian delegation for the session of the Intergovernmental Conference on the Accession of Bulgaria to the European Union which will be held tomorrow, 4 June 2004, in Brussels. The head of the delegation is the Minister of the European Affairs Meglena Kuneva, and it also includes representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture and Finance. It is expected that Chapter 21 “Regional Policy and Coordination of the Structural Instruments” will be preliminarily closed in Brussels tomorrow. To implement the undertaken commitments in the negotiation process, the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works drew up the necessary legislation and secondary legislation. The new Regional Development Act has been successfully adopted, and a number of related regulatory provisions, which are in a direct connection with the interests of the municipalities and target regions, are being drafted or adopted. Methodology guidelines for regional and municipal development strategies were adopted at an expert council at the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works yesterday. They will assist the representatives of the local authorities to work out their plan documents till March 2005. This is a proof not only of the implemented work for the preparation of Chapter 21 but also of the accomplishment of most undertaken commitments. PR & International Relations Directorate
