Rehabilitating this road and solving the problem of the bypass of the town of Vratsa will provide a very good road link from the ferryboat in Oriahovo to the capital and the interior of the country, which will fully meet the European standards and this is what we strive and work for. This was announced by the Regional Development and Public Works Minister Mr. Valentin Cerovski in the town of Mizia where along with the Second Secretary of the Delegation of the European Commission to Bulgaria Mr. Kristof Stock, he made the start of the rehabilitation and partial reconstruction of the 16.5-km road Mizia-Oriahovo by the Danube. The project is funded under PHARE-Cross Border Cooperation, Bulgaria-Romania, with 3 125 354 euro and it is envisaged that the road surface will be strengthened and the technical road characteristics will be improved. Mr. Kristof Stock highlighted the importance of the project for the cooperation between Bulgaria and Romania as well as for the economic and social development of the Danube region. He appealed to both countries to help each other and work together to attain the common goals in speeding up the process of the EU accession. The road between Mizia and Oriahovo is not only a road between two municipalities and two countries but also a road connecting Bulgaria with Europe, said the deputy from the NMSII Vesselin Bliznakov, who was also a guest at the ceremony. It is expected that the construction works will finish in 15 months, and the implementation of the project will employ about 400 workers and experts. PR & International Relations Directorate
