The Regional Development and Public Works Ministry wants to see the Sofia-Bourgas highway opened before the end of the present government’s term, Valentin Tserovski said during a visit to Stara Zagora and an inspection of the construction work underway at the Orizovo-Stara Zagora section of the Trakiya highway. “Making this happen will require serious mobilization,” said Tserovski. He added that the quality of work should not be made to suffer from “a fast job”. The construction of the Orizovo-Stara Zagora section of the Trakiya highway started in March and is due for completion in August 2005. Tsvetan Tsonev, the CEO of PSI which is a lead partner in the Runway BG Association building the highway section, said they have no worries about the deadlines. Runway BG won an international competition for the contract. The Orizovo-Stara Zagora section is 38.7 km and a 20-km stretch is under construction now. The construction project is worth 53,531,993 euros of which 7,004,579 euros have been utilized. The ongoing works include clearing the road bed, excavation, sloping and foundation operations. Operations have been started for moving the existing power lines, telecommunications and other movable networks. Public Relations and International Activity Directorate
