On 15 and 16 June 2004 a seminar will be held in Sofia on the topic of Structural Funds and Accession: The Bulgarian Case. The event is organized by the Bureau of Technical Assistance and Exchange of Information; the EC Directorates General: Enlargement, Regional Policy, Employment, Agriculture/Fisheries; and the Directorate for Regional Policy and Coordination of the Negotiation Process with the EC in relation to Chapter 21, which is within the MRDPW. The seminar is a part of the preparation of Bulgaria for management of the Structural funds and the EU Cohesion Fund. The programme envisages four workshops – Institutional Framework, Programming and Partnership, Interinstitutional Cooperation; Evaluation of Big Projects and Ex-ante Evaluation; Management and Monitoring; Financial Management, Financial Control and Audit. Such workshops have been held in all aspiring countries. The event is of paramount importance for Bulgaria after the closure of Chapter 21 Regional Policy. The Bulgarian side is represented at the seminar by the administrative structures of the main ministries which are responsible for fulfilling the commitments under Chapter 21 and will manage the allocations from the EU funds. The seminar will consider issues related to the key policy of the Community, which are laid down in the Lisbon Strategy and the European employment and sustainable development strategies.
