An expert commission from Road Executive Agency discussed the implementation of the contracts for construction of the access road Podkova – Makaza to the Bulgarian – Greek border. The new road is a part of the road-bed of the Pan-European corridor N9. At the discussion were present representatives of the contractors from the Turkish consortium “Kiska-Turan Hazinedaroğlu” and from the German holding “DV Consult”. At the beginning of this week the deputy minister of regional development and public works Dimcho Mihalevsky examined the construction site and the process of works on the new road to the border with the Greek Republic. During his visit were established serious problems related to the specific of the geological structure of the road-bed, with activation of landslide processes and the necessity of further stabilization works. The main reasons for these problems are omissions in the engineering-geological project. Additional designing has been drawn up and works for stabilization of the deep trenches have been foreseen. The Commission is empowered to carry out negotiations with the contractors for settling unified prices for the various types of additional works as well as to fix a deadline for final accomplishment of the project. The building of the road Podkova – Makaza has been financed under PHARE Program – Trans-border cooperation Bulgaria – Greece. The project envisages building of 18 km new road to the CBCP and rehabilitation of 2 km existing road. The contracts for construction and independent supervision were signed at the end of 2002. The total amount of the envisaged construction works is MEUR 18,616 of which MEUR 14,620 are under PHARE program. Public Relations and International Activities Directorate
